Workshop on “Women Safety and Self-Defense”

 

In the contemporary era, prioritizing women's safety is paramount, underscoring the significance of self-defense as a vital life skill. Recognizing this necessity, Women Cell, Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University, organized a workshop on “Women Safety and Self-Defense” on 05 March 2024, for the girl students of MCA, BCA & B.Sc. (IT). The expert of the workshop was Mr Naveen Hickey Founder, One man army institute of martial arts, Dehradun, along with his team.  

The event began with the felicitation of guests by Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Dean, USCS. She discussed common safety challenges faced by women and emphasized the importance of self-defense skills in addressing these challenges. Just like the fierce goddesses Durga and Kali, women have the power to overcome any challenge that crosses their path. 

Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat, Principal Law College, motivated the students by emphasizing that self-defense is not about engaging in physical confrontation unnecessarily, but rather about empowering oneself to protect oneself if the need arises. 

Mr Naveen Hickey demonstrated basic techniques such as judo, karate, and the required skills to empower and protect themselves. He showcased how realization, coupled with crucial tips, could empower individuals effectively. The demonstration presented techniques to deter attackers, emphasizing the strategic use of body parts like knees, elbows, and the head to neutralize threats decisively. The event was characterized by lively engagement and spirited participation from all students, creating an atmosphere of empowerment and preparedness. 

Dr Sameer Dev Sharma HoD, USCS the event was successfully organized by Ms Garima Rathi Head-Women Cell with the support of Mr Abhishek Pathak, Ms Manisha Saini and Ms Manisha Khanduja, along with volunteer students.
